  • 1 in 13 children (under 18) have a food allergy.
  • Food allergies and related attacks are on the rise in the US.
  • 4 out of 6 fatalities from a food allergic reaction occur at school.
  • There are laws and solutions to embrace when it comes to prevention.

It’s back to school time yet again. With food allergies becoming increasingly more common, the danger for students at school is very real and often invisible.

Jan Hanson, founder of Educating for Food Allergies (EFFA) and author of the new book Food Allergies: A Recipe for Success at School, has been working in the area of food allergy management for over 20 years and has consulted hundreds upon hundreds of families, educators, nurses, and other school personnel on the dangers of food allergies in our schools and what we can do to make sure our children are safe. As a mother of two children with life-threatening food allergies, Hanson offers a unique professional and personal perspective. In her new book, Hanson shares her knowledge and solutions – from how to identity a food allergy in your child, to the signs of an attack, to the most dangerous and unexpected places a threat could be lurking in school, as well as her 3-Step Plan to manage food allergies at school.
