Launch Event and “Send-Off” Ceremony for 17 Young LGBTQ Activists to Be Held on Saturday, March 3 at William Way Community Center

PHILADELPHIA, PA – This weekend, Soulforce will launch its 2012 Equality Ride, a two-month long social justice bus tour of 17 young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer (LGBTQ) activists to fundamentalist, anti-LGBTQ religious colleges and universities throughout the country. The fifth of its kind, the 2012 Soulforce Equality Ride will involve dialogues with college students and staff, public forums, community service projects and performance events.

Since its inception, Soulforce’s Equality Ride has served as a traveling forum that gives young adults the chance to deconstruct injustice and the rhetoric that sustains it. The Equality Ride has visited over 70 fundamentalist, anti-LGBTQ religious colleges and universities across the country, and has allowed emerging young leaders to unite in the struggle for common equality and justice for LGBTQ people and other oppressed minorities.
