In a strange development in the U.S., Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has overruled scientific approval of the Food and Drug Administration and has stopped the sale of emergency contraceptives to young women under 17, without a prescription. No Health and Human Services Secretary has ever taken such action – in the history of the role, despite having the authority to do so.

Peoplestill, wrongly, believe that making contraceptives available to young people will encourage sexual activity.
