Padded Bikini Top for Young Girls Strikes Debate

Abercrombie & Fitch has launched their Spring / Summer Kids line-up and the inclusion of a padded bikini bra top has sparked debate, and in some cases – rage. The bikini tops are being sold to girls as young as 7 years-old and critics are slamming the retailer for selling clothes which sexually objectify children.

The well-known, popular retailer has often been cited for it’s sex-charged advertising to teens, but it appears that they are reaching down even further to gain a market with a younger demographic.

On one hand – there is no question that offering padded bikinis to the Under-10 set is questionable, but anyone who has shopped for a swimsuit for girls and young women over the past 5 years knows that bikinis are “the norm”. It’s actually difficult to find one-piece swimsuits at many popular retailers. The only difference here is that this bikini top is padded.

Let’s face it – Abercrombie & Fitch wouldn’t sell the bikini tops if there wasn’t an audience to buy them. So remember to shop at a retailer where you not only like the clothing, but also buy into their values. Money is power.
