REVIEW BY ELLEN DOBBS

Luce Price is the new kid at school, except it isn’t a normal school. Luce has been sent to Sword & Cross Reform School under strange circumstances, which she can’t remember anything about.  Now she has been forced into a school full of crazies. But Luce finds friends amongst the chaos. She manages to get adopted by psychotic Arraine, pursued by charming Cam, helped by sweet Penn and has her heart stolen by handsome Daniel Grigori. The only problem: Daniel seems to hate her. But Luce can’t stay away from the familiar Daniel. As Luce digs deeper into records and files for information on Daniel, she finds she could be involved with something darker than the haunting shadows only she can see, and stranger than she ever could have imagined.

This love story is mixed with just the right amount of mystery and darkness to make it stand out on any bookshelf! The story is an amazing idea, incorporating ancient legends and myths along with some religion, to add up to a modern page-turner. The characters change with the story, either pushing it in a new direction, or revealing the true nature of the character. As Luce discovers more about who she truly is, you discover sometimes unexpected changes in the other characters. I love the prologue, which really jump starts your interest, once you read that there’s no way you’re putting the book down. I can’t wait for the next book, Torment (which has a rather interesting title!)!
